READING BETWEEN THE LINES OF A JOB POST

Preferred. Required. Expectations. Description.

If you are shopping for a new career these words are probably all too familiar to you. You find a position that excites you; it seems to be a perfect fit! But then one of those words like “Preferred” or “Required” pops up taking the air out of you like a balloon being shot out of the air on a hot summer day.

NEWS FLASH!

Employers are looking for the perfect candidate yet realize there is no such thing!

Just like you are seeking the perfect career, employers are looking for the perfect employee. Look at a Job Posting as a “Wish List” for the company. The list of their wants and/or desires is simply fishing to see how many of the “wants” they can find in a prospect. The one with the most…or rather…the most important to them, wins. The thing is, only the hiring manager knows what is “most important.”

WHATS THE WORST THEY CAN SAY?

When you find a job posting that interest you, apply! The worst they can say is no thank you. If you take the time to go through the posting to find what you do qualify for and create a resume that articulates clearly those points, you never know…you could land the job of your dreams!
