Evening Café with Coach Robert: FEELING GROOVY!

Remember the song “Feeling Groovy” by Simon and Garfunkel? “Slow down, you move too fast, you got to make the morning last” would always get stuck in my head along with the “Feeling Groovy!” I could never remember all of the other words so all day I’d be singing over and over “Slow down, you move too fast, you got to make the morning last…feeling groovyyyyy!”

That song once again came to mind today as I watched people rushing from store to store. Some don’t know what they are looking for as a present, but they are in a hurry to get whatever it is. More than once I heard people walking along saying, “what about this?” or “That’s neat, I bet he (or she) would like that.” Gadgets, toys and clothes were tossed into buggies sometimes without people breaking stride.

I really wanted to have a Glee moment and break out in song singing, “Slow down, you move too fast, you got to make the season last!”

If you are like me and my family with Christmas day closing in there are a few more errands to run and things to get done so we can enjoy the day with our family. While we are doing the running around though we should remember to slow down and enjoy the journey of the season. I want to hear the “jing-jing jingle and the sleigh bells ringing” in the background.  The joy of seeing a total stranger’s face light up when I say, “Merry Christmas” with a smile is priceless. Even saying Merry Christmas to the Salvation Army bell ringer (instead of looking the other way) brightens a day.

There are so many cool memories happening before our very eyes. These memories are one time moments in our lives that can’t be reenacted again. The smile on a child’s face, a hug of a loved one or the smell of those special meals that only come at Christmas; all of these things and more are snapshots that we will cherish if we will just take note.

Take time this year to slow down and make it last; hit the pause button regularly and savor the moments with your family, friends and even strangers. Take the time to make it last and you will be Feeling Groovy this Christmas season.

Merry Christmas!
